Tha Joker: Why So Serious?
My homeboy and roommate put me on this dude when I first met him but I haven’t done anything of him for the simple fact that I haven’t had time up until now. I’ve had his other mixtape for awhile (We Do If For Fun), but right before I started to listen, I saw that he dropped this mixtape called, “Why So Serious?” At first, I thought he was jacking Serius Jones, but then his name made the name so apparent that I could of slapped myself. From what I’m hearing from Joker is a southern lyricist I the mold of Webbie, Yo Gotti, Plies & Rick Ross which says a lot. Mississippi is starting to make a lot of noise, along with the likes of Big K.R.I.T. and Boo Rossini. What I would like to hear from Joker is more of his inner thoughts and for him to get deeper than bitches, hoes, clothes and d-boy shit. But then again, this is just a mixtape so if he can get a deal ad drop an album, I’m pretty sure he’d get a lil’ deeper like Plies and Lil’ Boosie do on their respective albums. Looking forward to his upcoming projects.

Kent Money: The Becoming
I forgot where I heard about this nigga and I was wanting to listen to his ‘tape for awhile, but haven’t had the time to get to it until now. I must say that I am impressed. I don’t have that much information for you on K. Money so you should just take this with open arms and ears. His music stays consistent throughout your first listen, which is really good. I look forward to his next project. Enjoy.

Cyhi da Prince: Royal Flush
Cyhi da Prince was introduced to the world a day before his ‘tape was dropped in the last BET Cypher with his label mates on GOOD Music. His punchlines are like hooks from the old Mike Tyson. Also, listening to this track, he shows a lot of respect to Outkast during this ‘tape. I’m not going tell which tracks they are, just listen. For someone who is so lyrical and is someone, especially since he signed to GOOD Music, in the middle of this ‘tape (track 6 through 9) he has three straight tracks for the ladies, which I don’t really mind. It’s just that he surprised and he doesn’t come off as that type of artist. After track 9, his ‘tape just takes off, which is why I list almost all tracks after #10. Cyhi da Prince is someone to look for, and he’s 4th in order. I know your like 4th in order!? But, Big Sean and Kanye West is about to drop their albums and Common is working on his. He should be coming up in the middle of 2011.

Madison X: Black Market Vol.4:: Cruel Summer
Talking to my dude, DJ Kickz, he told me about this dude named Madison X. He said he had a lot of talent. I thought to myself, “ This nigga just telling me this, because he’s hosting the mixtape and he trying to get his downloads up.” LOL. I was off and wrong. Dude is a spitter. I like how it starts off this mixtape. He sets the tone for the mixtape, however, I don’t like how he has features on his intro. But the next track, he shows versatility in his song writing with “Daydream.” Most of these tracks are a bunch of flows, which is cool, because he actually can flow, but with his songwriting abilities, I rather him on more of his own tracks and also for the flows to be longer. But regardless, he has talent. I’m glad to be one of the first to here this dude. If you don’t like him, give him a chance to grow.

11) Lose My Mind

Dee Goodz: Floetic Justice
Once again, we back to my nigga Dee Goodz, putting Cashville on the map with really good and consistent music and using classic instrumentals such as an old Sadat X beat. Who said the South doesn’t listen to classic shit? Goodz, starts his ‘tape with excerpt from a ‘Pac interview, which is only right since this ‘tape is called “Floetic Justice,” which the title is based off the famous ‘Pac & Janet Jackson movie, “Poetic Justice.” Throughout the ‘tape, Dee Goodz is proving a couple points with this ‘tape: 1) hip hop is in Nashville and 2) we need to do more as a culture and move away from ignorant shit and get focused. He’s making a lot of noise. XXL should pay attention.

Shawn Chrystopher: The Audition
Doing some casual browsing…lol….I ran on this song on 2dopeboyz.com and heard this song by this dude named Shawn Chrystopher called “Catch Me If You Can.” Listening to is, it had me doing ‘the Dame Dash.” (For clues on “the Dame Dash” look up the “Big Pimpin’” video.) Eventually, I got around to looking up dude’s mixtape. Honestly, he was alright. He has a flow like Ya Boy without all of Ya Boy’s bullshit. He definitely understands song structure and his style naturally caters to the radio. The only problem with Mr. chrystopher is, he still needs more development. With that said, this mixtape is not his newest and his new shit could be 5 times better. So until I can find that for you people out there, I think you settle on this to whet your appetite.
Songs to look out for:
2) Doogie Howser
4) No Snitchin’
7) Can’t Take That From Me
13) I Get Money feat. Cameron Wallace
14) Sometimes Love (Tone P. feat. Shawn Chrystopher)
